In First Condition

f(x) = mx + n and f(-1) = -5

m(-1)+n= -5

-m+n=-5. ....(1)

In Second Condition

f(x) = mx + n and f(3) =3

m(3)+n=3

3m+n=3 .....(2)

Subtracting equation (2) from equation (1), we get

-4m=-8

m=2

Substituting this value of m in equation (1), we get

-2+n= -5

n=-5+2

n=-3
