As,
  \sin^{2}(x) +  \cos^{2}(x) = 1
We get,
 \frac{d \tan(x) }{dx}  =  \frac{1}{ \cos^{2}(x)  }
And 1/cos²x = sec²x
 \frac{d \tan(x) }{dx}  = \sec^{2}(x)

Hence proved
