Clearly f(x) =x^2 for x>/=0, and f(x)= -x^2 for x<0. Hence f preserves sign and so should f^(-1).

f(x)=x² for x>/=0

f(x)=-x² for x<0

i.e. f is a preserves sign so f^-1
