f(x) = $x^{2}$-2x+7

In case of f(x-1) , substitute (x-1) in place of x in the given function.

f(x-1) = $(x-1)^{2}$ - 2( x-1 ) + 7

        = $x^{2}$ + 1 - 2x - 2x + 2 +7

        = $x^{2}$ -4x + 10

From the question ,

f(x) = f(x-1) +5

$x^{2}$ - 2x + 7 = $x^{2}$ - 4x + 10 + 5

( $x^{2}$ gets cancelled out )

-2x +4x = 15 -7

2x = 8

x = 8/2

x = 4
