ANSWER:

Given:

  • Father is twice as old as his son.
  • He is 32 years older than his son.

To Find:

  • Age of father

Solution:

Let us assume that age of father is x years.

So, as we are given that, the father is twice as old as his son, hence,

⇒ Age of Father = 2 × Age of Son.

⇒ x = 2 × Age of Son.

Hence,

⇒ Age of Son = x/2 years.

We are also given that,

⇒ Father is 32 years older than son.

So,

⇒ Age of Father = 32 + Age of Son

⇒ x = 32 + x/2

Transposing x/2 to LHS,

⇒ x - x/2 = 32

Taking LCM,

⇒ (2x - x)/2 = 32

⇒ x/2 = 32

Transposing 2 to RHS,

⇒ x = 32 × 2

Hence,

⇒ x = 64.

Therefore, age of father is 64 years.
