Because of external resistance that is friction of the ground which favours to stop.

The first law of motion is always correct.
Infact a rolling ball doesn't stop by itself. It is the frictional force that acts in opposite direction to the direction of propagation of the ball ; stop the ball from going further .
Thus, the first law of motion always holds true.
