One of the primary differences between the turbine and pump is that the former deploys the energy of fluid to generate shaft work.
In other words fluid moving out of the turbine is equipped with lower energy while in case of pump it is the opposite.
In the above mentioned case, the fluid exiting has a higher speed, therefore the machine is a pump.
