Given:

Force applied = 200 N

The length of a spanner = 0·15 m

To Find:

We have to find the torque.

Solution:

The forces can cause an object to rotate and the turning effect of the force is called a moment or torque.

The rotational or turning effect has a magnitude that can be easily calculated from the formula:

    M = F × d

where,

M ↔ The moment of a force

F ↔ Force applied

d ↔ The perpendicular distance from the point to the line of action of the force

The turning effect, M = 200 × 0·15

                                   = 30 Nm

∴ The torque or the turning effect = 30 Nm
