If friction does not depend upon the area of contact, why is rolling friction less than sliding friction?

In rollimg friction small surface area touch with LAND OR ANY EQUIPMENT BUT IN SLIDING FRICTION YOU WILL SEE MORE SIRFACE TOUCHTH I.E ITS NOT ROLL INSTEAD OF SLID
