Answer:

10 , 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : if from twice the greater of two positive numbers 16 is subtracted, the result is half the other. if from half the greater number, 1 is subtracted, result is still half the other number.

To Find:  find the numbers.

Solution:

let greater number be x

Let smaller number be y

Since we are given that f from twice the greater of two positive numbers 16 is subtracted, the result is half the other.

2x-16=\frac{y}{2}

4x-32=y  --a

Since we are also given that  if from half the greater number, 1 is subtracted, result is still half the other number.

\frac{x}{2} -1 = \frac{y}{2}

x-2=y --b

Now solve a and b

Substitute the value of x from b in a

4(y+2)-32 =y

4y+8-32 =y

4y-24 =y

3y=24

y=\frac{24}{3}

y=8

Now put this value of y in b to get value of x

⇒x-2=8

⇒x=10

Thus the numbers are 10 and 8
