potential energy on earth's surface is,

  • P1=-GMm/R

potential energy at a height=R is,

  • P2=-GMm/2R

gain in potential energy,

P2-P1=GMm/2R

  • GM=gR^2

P2-P1=mgR/2

  • this can be derived from a simple equation,

if h=nR

gain in potential energy,

P=[(mgR)/n+1]
