HCF means Highest Common Factor.

In other words find biggest number which can divide 81 and 237 both.

So we will do prime factorization of 81 and 237 then find their common factors.

From factor tree we see that prime factors of 81 and 237 are :

81=3*3*3*3

237=3*79

Only common factor in them is 3

Hence 3 is the HCF.
