We know we can’t know the whole truth but we can get close enough that the narrative and collection of facts we construct gives us insights we need. But, in order for that to be the case we need to pretend there is something called a fact and something called truth, and something called a complete accounting of what is known. There is a critically important, rich intellectual world inside that game.
At this point in history the vogue is to not play that game. It is to tell stories KNOWING there’s extreme bias in the narrative and EXPLOITING the weakness of language and perception to achieve sociopolitical ends. This is, of course, identical to what totalitarian and pre-totalitarian dictatorships have done throughout history. It’s evil.
If you’re willing to try to play the game of facts and the whole truth, history is an awesome thing to study. It can change the future for the better. And it’s fascinating and exciting.
