When air becomes hot, it gains kinetic energy. So, it can move more faster and can expand and rise up. But when air is cooled down, it it starts loosing its energy whatever was their. So as the molecules looses their energy, it cant move fast as it could before. hence, it becomes heavy and cold air always comes down.
