let first we find the % change

% change = a + b + ab / 100

let a = 40 ( increase ) , b = - 40 ( decrease )

% change = 40 + (-40) +( 40 )( -40) / 100

= 40 - 40 - (1600 / 100)

= 40 - 40 - 16

= 40 - 56

= - 16 % ( decrease )

100% - 16% = 84 %

84 % of 100 = 84 / 100 × 100 = 84

hence , the number will be 84 .
