when a hydrocarbon fuel is burnt, it gives out carbon dioxide and water vapours. Hydrocarbons are made up of carbon and hydrogen. When they are burnt in the presence of oxygen, carbon reacts with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and hydrogen reacts with oxygen to form water vapours.
