my answer is more of a psychological approach. the head of a joint family means that you are the pack leader . every decision requires your point of view. the first thing to do is to not be biased towards elders or children. children should not be spoiled and elders should be authoritarian on the problems of the children. it means listen to both sides of the story and never force your judgement , keep calm at all times to mediate in a problem. never make a decision based on your bias but think about your families want and need. if something is bothering discuss it as a family.
