If I cut out as many 75 cm pieces as possible from the rope shown below, what will be the length of the piece remaining at the end?

Here,

  • Total length of rope = 5 ¾ m or 23/4 m
  • Length of each pieces = 75 cm or 0.75 m

Length of rope(as decimals) = 5.75 m

Total number of pieces to be cut =

 \dfrac{5.75}{0.75}  =  \dfrac{575}{75}  = 7 \dfrac{50}{75}  \\  \\

Thus,

  • 50 cm piece will remain at the end.
