Octopus - and fish generally - do not carry the same risk of salmonella or other bacterial pathogens as meat but there is an increasing risk of bacterial food poisoning as a result of fish farming, poor handling or contact with contaminated water and also there is a risk of parasitic infection which can cause illness.
