Answer: 40\sqrt{10} units

as we fold the square vertically on side becomes half. if new area is 500 sq. units then the original area will be double of new area as one side is the sames as earlier and new side is half earlier. therefore original area will be 1000 sq. units

as area is 1000 sq. unit

a = s*s

1000 = s*s

s^2 = 1000

s = \sqrt{1000}

=> 10\sqrt{10} u

p = 4*s

=> 4*10\sqrt{10}

=> 40\sqrt{10} units
