Answer:

13/21

Step-by-step explanation:

let numerator is x and denominator is y

denominator is greater than numerator by 8,

so

y = x +8 ---------(1)

now increase in numerator by 17, i.e x+17

decrease in denominator by 1 i.e y-1

the fraction will be 3/2

so,

 \frac{x + 17}{y - 1}  =  \frac{3}{2}

so 2(x+17)= 3(y-1)

2x + 34 = 3y - 3

2x = 3y - 3 -34

2x = 3y - 37 ------(2)

substituting the value of y in equation 2 we get,

2x = 3(x+8) - 37

2x = 3x + 24 - 37

2x - 3x = - 13

- x = - 13

x = 13

so y = 13 + 8

y = 21

so numerator is 13 and denominator is 21

and rational number is,

 \frac{13}{21}

Hope this will help you.
