In a right angle traingle, Pythagoras theorem will hold good.

(Hypotenuse)^2=(Perpendicuar)^2+(Base)^2

=> (BC)^2 = (AB)^2+(AC)2

=> (17)^2=(15)^2+(8)^2

=>289=225+64

=> 289=289

=> L.H.S.=R.H.S.

So, the triangle under question is certainly a right angle triangle and it is right angle at A.
