29th term (a+28d)= 18 -------(2)

Now, (2)-(1)» (a+28d)-(a+17d)=18-29
»a+28d-a-17d=-11
»11d=-11
»d=-11/11
Therefore, d=-1

Putting d=1 in (1) we get,
»a+17×(-1)=29
»a-17=29
»a=29+17
»a=46

Now, 49th term = a+48d
»49th term = 46+48×(-1)
»49th term = 46-48
Therefore, 49th term = -2
