Least Count refers to the smallest distance that can be measured using an instrument. It indicates the degree of precision of an instrument. Most of the vernier Calipers have a least count of 0.1mm

Formula to calculate LEAST COUNT is

= "Length of 1 MSD - Length of 1 VSD"

Where MSD = main scale division &

VSD = Vernier scale division

⇒ Now according to the question

4 VSD = 2 MSD

1 VSD = 1/2 MSD

SO,

Least count = 1 MSD - 1 VSD

Least count = 1 MSD - 1/2 MSD

Least count = 1/2 MSD

Least count = 1/2 x (1mm)

Least count = 0.5 mm ________(Ans.)

Hope it helps.
