if 1/2 is root of p(x) than,

x=1/2

putting value of x in p(x).we get,

(1/2)^2 + k/2 - 5/4 = 0

1/4 + k/2 - 5/4 = 0

taking L.C.M,

1/4 + 2k/4 - 5/4 = 0

(2k-4)/4 = 0

2k - 4 = 0

2k = 4

k=2
