Originally Answered: If it is noon at the Prime Meridian, what is the time at 50 degrees East?

Ans. 3:20 PM

Explanation —

Earth rotates 360 ° in 24 hr.

Then in 1 hr. =360°/24=15°

1 hr.=15°

Also, 1 hr. = 60 min.

》60min.=15°

1min. = 1/4°

And, 1°= 4min.

—Earth rotates east to west . Therefore time in the east of the Prime Meridian will be ahead of that west of it and Prime Meridian itself.

50° east of it!!!

We know in 1 hr. Earth rotates 15°.

Therefore it will rotate 45° in 3hr.

Remaining 5° in 20 minutes.

HENCE, time in 50° east of it will be 3:20 PM

Keeping in mind time at Prime Meridian is 12 Noon.

  • The difference in the longitudinal stretch with known reference = 60°E - 30°W = 90°

  • Time is taken to travel longitudinal degree = 4 minutes

  • TIME to taken for 90° = 90*4 = 360 minutes = 6 hours

  • Thus, if it is 12 noon at 60°E longitude, then time at 30° W longitude would be 6 AM.
