  • As per the data, we have to find the value of the given expression.

            Given data:- a=\frac{2}{5}, \ b=\frac{1}{2}  .

            To find:- The value of k.

            Solution:-

  • We will take the LCM of the denominators, and make denominators the same.
  • We will Convert the given fractions to equivalent fractions with the denominator as the LCM.
  • Adding the numerators over the denominators.

        Therefore,

                k=\frac{\frac{2}{5} +\frac{1}{2} }{\frac{2}{5}-\frac{1}{2}  }\\k=\frac{\frac{2 \cdot 2+5}{5 \cdot 2}}{\frac{2 \cdot 2+5(-1)}{5 \cdot 2}}\\k=\frac{\frac{4+5}{5 \cdot 2}}{\frac{4-5}{5 \cdot 2}}\\k=-\frac{\frac{9}{5 \cdot 2}}{\frac{1}{5 \cdot 2}}\\k=-\frac{9}{5 \cdot 2} \div \frac{1}{5 \cdot 2}\\k=-\left(\frac{9}{5 \cdot 2}\right)(5 \cdot 2)\\k=-\frac{9}{5 \cdot 2} \cdot 10\\k=-10 \cdot \frac{9}{5 \cdot 2}\\k=-\frac{10 \cdot 9}{5 \cdot 2}\\k=-\frac{2 \cdot 5 \cdot 9}{5 \cdot 2}\\k=9.

     Hence we will get the value k=9.
