Length of resistance of a wire is l/2.

The cross-sectional area becomes 2A.

Thus, the new equation becomes:

Thus, R=\rho\frac{l}{2\times2A}

R_{1} =\frac{1}{4} (\rho\frac{l}{A}) -----------(2)

Substitute (1) in (2)

R_{1} =\frac{1}{4} (R)

Thus, the new resistance is 1/4th of the old resistance.
