Resolving power of the telescope with an objective lens of diameter 14.64 and a light of wavelength 6000 is given below;

  • Here,D=14.64

                 λ=6000

                 Therefore,

                  Resolving power=D/1.22×λ

                                                = 14.64/(1.22×6000)

                                                        =2×10∧-3.

  • Resolving power of a telescope is defined as the reciprocal of the smallest angle subtended at the objective lens of the telescope by two point objects whose image can be distinguished as separate.

                            Resolving power=D/1.22×λ

        where, D is the diameter of objective lens

                     λ is the wavelength of light used.
