If ABC is a triangle ,

From Pythagoras Theorem

assuming :

ab is either base or height and bc is  either height or  base.

then ac is hypotenuse

ac^2 = ab^2 + bc^2

ac = √(8 + 2) = 3.16

or

ac is either base or height and bc is  either height or  base.

then ab  is hypotenuse (ab > ac)

ab^2 = ac^2 + bc^2

ac = √(8 - 2) = 2.45

if abc are a straight line

then ac = ab+bc

ac =√(8 ) + √(2)

ac = 4.26
