Answer:

m + 1/m = -5

squaring on both the sides

(m + 1/m)^2 = (-5)^2

m^2 + 2(m)(1/m) + (1/m)^2 = 25

m^2 + 2 + 1/m^2 = 25

m^2 + 1/m^2 = 25 - 2

m^2 + 1/m^2 = 23

Question

 m +  \frac{1}{m } = 5: then \: prove \:  {m}^{2} +  { \frac{1}{m} }^{2}   = 23

solution

on squring both sides

( {m +  { \frac{1}{m} }^{} })^{2}  =  {5}^{2}

by using identity of (a+b)²= ++2ab

 {m}^{2}  +  { \frac{1}{m} }^{2}  + 2m \frac{1}{m}  =  {5}^{2}

 {m}^{2}  +  { \frac{1}{m} }^{2}  + 2 = 25

 {m}^{2}  +  { \frac{1}{m} }^{2}  = 25 - 2

{m}^{2}  +  { \frac{1}{m} }^{2}  = 23

hence proved
