GIVEN

If m is the reciprocal of a rational number n

TO DETERMINE

The difference of product of m & n and 1 is

CALCULATION

The reciprocal of a real number exists provided the number is non zero

Since reciprocal of n exists

 \sf{ \:So \:  \: n \ne \: 0  \: }

Now m is the reciprocal of a rational number n

So

 \displaystyle \:  \sf{m =  \frac{1}{n} }

 \implies \:  \displaystyle \:  \sf{mn = 1 }

 \implies \:  \displaystyle \:  \sf{mn  - 1  = 0}

Hence the difference of product of m & n and 1 is

 =  \sf{mn - 1 = 0 \: }
