GIVEN :

m - n = 7

• mn = 5

TO FIND :

▪︎ m² + n² = ?

SOLUTION :

=> m - n = 7

• Square on both sides –

=> (m - n)² = (7)²

=> (m - n)² = 49

• We know that –

➲ (a - b)² = a² + b² - 2ab

• So that –

=> m² + n² - 2mn = 49

=> m² + n² - 2(5) = 49 [ ∵ mn = 5 ]

=> m² + n² - 10 = 49

=> m² + n² = 49 + 10

=> m² + n² = 59

Hence , The value of m² + n² = 59.
