A magnification of 0.5 will mean the image is smaller .

Magnification is the ratio of the height of the image to that of the object

So m= height of the image / height of the object .

So if m = 1

Then the height of the object is equal to the height of the image

So if m is greater than 1

Height of the image is greater than the height of the object .

Now ,if m is lesser than 1

The height of the image is lesser than that of the object .

So in your case ,magnification is 0.5 which is lesser than 1 ,which will mean that the image is smaller than the object .

Also it will mean that the image s height is half the height of the object .
