We are aware of the relationship between Mean, Mode, Median that

Mode = 3 × Median - 2 × Mean - - - - - (1)

Now it is given that

Mean - Mode = k × ( Mean - Median)

Which can be rewritten as

Mode = k × Median - ( k - 1 )×Mean - - - (2)

Comparing (1) & (2) we get

k = 3
