The new mean would be 12

Explanation:

Let the series is of 20 numbers

Given,

Mean of 20 numbers be 10

Then,

Sum of 20 numbers = Numbers × Mean

where

Numbers is 20

Mean is 10

So,

Sum of 20 numbers = 20 × 10

= 200

And 2 is added to each number, then we get

= 200 + (20 × 2)

= 200 + 40

= 240

Now, computing the new mean is as:

New mean = 240 / 20

New mean = 12

Note: Here in the question the number in a series is missing, so, I assumed 20 numbers and computed the new mean. Therefore, in the same manner any number in series could be computed.

The new mean is 12

Explanation:

Given

Current mean = 10

Total number = Y

Added in each number = 2

Find:

New mean.

Computation:

Current mean = Sum of all number / Total number

10 = Sum of all number / Y

Sum of all number = 10Y

New mean = [Sum of all number + 2(Total number)] / Total number

New mean = [10Y + 2(Y)] / Y

New mean = [12 Y] / Y

New mean = 12
