Mean = Sum of observations / Total number of observations.

Sum of observations

= x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 + x + 8

=> Sum of all Observations

= 5x + 20

Mean = 24

Number of Observations = 5

Substituting in the formula we get,

=> 24 = ( 5x + 20 ) / 5

Cross Multiplying 5 with 24 we get,

=> 24 × 5 = 5x + 20

=> 120 = 5x + 20

=> 120 - 20 = 5x

=> 100 = 5x

=> x = 100/5

=> 20

Hence, the value of x is 20.
