Given

  • Mean of x,x+2,x+4,x+6and x+8 is 24

To find

  • Find the value of x

Solution

As we know that

→ Mean = sum of the terms / number of terms

According to the question

→ 24 = x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) + (x + 8)/4

→ 24 × 4 = x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 8

→ 96 = 4x + 14

→ 96 - 14 = 4x

→ 4x = 82

→ x = 82/4 = 41/2

Hence,

  • Value of x is 41/2

Step-by-step explanation:

{\red{\underline{\underline{\bold{Given:-}}}}}

  • The mean of x , x+2, x+4, x+6 and x+8 is 24

{\blue{\underline{\underline{\bold{To\:Find:-}}}}}

  • The value of x

{\green{\underline{\underline{\bold{Solution:-}}}}}

Given Mean = 24

The terms = x, x+2 , x+4 , x+6 and x+8

The number of terms = 5

{\orange{\underline{\underline{\bold{Formula\:used:-}}}}}

Mean =  \frac{Sum \: of \: terms}{Number \: of \: terms}

\frac{(x) +( x + 2 )+ (x + 4 )+ (x + 6 )+ (x + 8)}{5}    = 24

\implies \frac{x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 + x + 8}{5}   = 24

 \implies\frac{5x + 20}{5}  = 24

Take 5 as a common term in the numerator

\implies\frac{5(x + 4)}{5}   = 24

 \implies x + 4 = 20

 \implies x = 24 - 4 = 20

\boxed{Second\:option \:is\:correct}
