If mediannof a number of patients attending a hospital is 36 then find the missing frequencies f1 and f2 in the following distribution when it is given that total number is 100
Answers
Given : median of a number of patients attending a hospital is 36 . Total number = 100
To find : the Missing frequencies
Solution:
Number of patients Total number of days CF
0 to 10, 5 5
10to20, 12 17
20to30, F1 17 + F1
30to40 F2 17 + F1 + F2
,40to50, 15 32 + F1 + F2
50to60, 11 43 + F1 + F2
60to70. 14 57 + F1 + F2
57 + F1 + F2 = 100
=> F1 + F2 = 43
Median = 30 + 10 * (50 - ( 17 + F1) / F2
=> 36 = 30 + 10 * (33 - F1) / F2
=> 6F2 = 330 - 10F1
=> 6F2 + 10F1 = 330
=> 3F2 + 5F1 = 165
3F1 + 3F2 = 129
=> 2F1 = 36
=> F1 = 18
=> F2 = 25
F1 = 18 & F2 = 25
