good question they ask for it because thats how they pay the bills on the church and money can help people get back on there feet

Actually it is much better to think about it like this:
Money is power
Power corrupts
Absolute power corrupts absolutely
So if a person has an overwhelming love of accumulating wealth then it follows that what they desire most of all is power. Money per se is worthless it is what you do with money that creates value and can corrupt.
