Assuming that the hardware supports 64-bit. You need to backup files before switching between 32 and 64 bit. Switching requires formatting the system drive for the OS and doing a fresh install.
Assuming that you are on Windows 7/8/8.1 Pro, do the following:
1) Download the media creation tool from the Microsoft site
2) Create the image for the associated 32-bit or 64-bit OS that you are on
Remember : You can upgrade from Windows 7/8/8.1 32-bit to Windows 10 32-bit
If you need to switch from 32-bit to 64-bit, then you need to upgrade to Windows 10 32-bit, activate then format the system and install Windows 10 64-bit (Applications and data will be lost)
3) Use the installer to upgrade
Also you cannot freely upgrade from Home to Pro. The automatic activation wouldnt happen and you need to buy a license
