If n(A) = 4 then the value of n(P(A)) = 16

Correct question : If n(A) = 4 then what is the value of n(P(A))

Given :

n(A) = 4

To find :

The value of n(P(A))

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Define power set of a set

The collection of all subsets of a non empty set A is a set of sets. This set is called the power set A and is denoted by P(A)

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the value of n(P(A))

We know that if a set contains n elements then it's power set P(A) contains 2ⁿ elements

Here it is given that n(A) = 4

∴ Number of elements in A = n = 4

The value of n(P(A))

= Number of elements in P(A)

= 2⁴

= 16
