Question :- if NINE+FINE=WIVES find the value of S+I+N+E if E = 5 and V = 3 .

Putting value of E = 5 and V = 3 , we get,

Conclusion 1) NINE + FINE = WIVES = 4 digit + 4digit = 5 digit . Therefore, W = 1 . ( N + F is Greater than 10 because of 5 digits .)

Conclusion 2) 5 + 5 = 10 . Therefore, S = 0 . And 1 is carry .

Conclusion 3) Now, we have 1(carry) + N + N = 5 in last .

=> N + N = 5 - 1 = 4

Therefore, N can be 7. (7 + 7) = 14.

Hence,

=> 7 + 7 + 1 = 15 (1 Carry.)

Conclusion 4) Now, we have 1(carry) + I + I = 3 in last .

=> I + I = 3 - 1 = 2

Therefore, I can be 6. (6 + 6) = 12.

Hence,

=> 6 + 6 + 1 = 13 (1 Carry.)

Conclusion 5) N + F + 1 = WI

=> 7 + F + 1 = 16

=> 8 + F = 16

=> F = 16 - 8

=> F = 8.

From all 5 conclusions we get :-

• W = 1
• S = 0
• N = 7
• I = 6
• F = 8

Therefore,

→ S + I + N + E

→ 0 + 6 + 7 + 5

Hence, the value of SINE is 18.
