Answer:

let the rational number =x/y

numerator is 2 less than denominator then

x=y-2

then the rational number =(y-2)/y

when 1 is subtracted from both numerator and denominator then the rational number =[(y-2)-1]/(y-1)

according to question,

[(y-2)-1]/(y-1)=1/2

or, 2×(y-2)-2=y-1

or, 2y-4-2=y-1

or, 2y-y=6-1

or, y=5

I hope it will help you.

Step-by-step explanation:

let the numerator be x

then the denominator will be x+2

therefore the eauation will be

x-1/(x+2)-1 =1/2
