Answer:

8/15

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the fraction be x/y.

Numerator increased by 2 and the denominator by 1, it becomes 5/8.

=> (x + 2)/(y + 1) = 5/8

=> 8(x + 2) = 5(y + 1)

=> 8x + 16 = 5y + 5

=> 8x - 5y + 11 = 0    ------ (1)

If numerator  and denominator of same fraction are each increased by 1, the fraction becomes 1/2.

=> (x - 1)/(y - 1) = 1/2

=> 2(x - 1) = y - 1

=> 2x - 2 = y - 1

=> y = 2x - 1       ------- (2)

Place y in (1), we will get

8x - 5y + 11 = 0

=> 8x - 5(2x - 1) + 11 = 0

=> x = 8

Place x = 8 in (2), we will get

y = 2x - 1

=> y = 16 - 1

=> y = 15

Hence, fraction is (8/15)
