Given:

One mole of oxygen atoms weighs 16 grams

To find :

Find the mass of one atom of oxygen in (grams)

Theory :

Mole: Mole  is a unit which represents

 particles of the same nature.

\star Note :

The number \sf6.023\times10^{23} is call Avogadro number \sf\:N_{a}

  • Important points :

1 mole = \sf6.023\times10^{23} particles

1 mole of atoms = \sf6.023\times10^{23} atoms

1 mole of molecules=\sf6.023\times10^{23} molecules

1 mole of electrons=\sf6.023\times10^{23} electrons

Solution :

Mass of 1 mole of oxygen= 16 gm

We know that:

1 mole of oxygen contains =  atoms

Thus,

Mass of  oxygen atoms = 16 gm

  • By unitary unit

Mass of 1 oxygen atom =\sf\dfrac{16}{6.023\times10^{23}} gm

Mass of 1 oxygen atom =\sf\dfrac{16}{6.023}\times10^{-23} gm

Mass of 1 oxygen atom =\sf\dfrac{16}{6.01}\times10^{-23} gm

Mass of 1 oxygen atom =\sf2.66\times10^{-23}gm

  • Extra information :

Mole= \frac{weight\ of\ compound ( gm)}{gram\ molecular\ mass}

Mole = \frac{weight\ of\ element}{gram\ atomic\ mass}

Mole = \frac{number\ of\ particles}{avogadro\ number}

Mole= \frac{volume (l)}{ 22.4(l)}
