if one of equal side is a so another will also be a because two sides in an isosceles triangle are equal.

h square=a square+a square

h square=2a square

h=root 2a square

length of both equal sides = a
by using pytgagoras theorem
a square + a square = hypotenuse square
2a square = hypotenuse square
hypotenuse = a root 2
