The value of the other factor is (x+3)

Given:

Polynomial p(x)= x² + x - 6

One of the factor is x-2

To find:

The value of other factor

Solution:

Given Polynomial p(x)= x² + x - 6

Given one its factor is x-2

To find the factors of p(x) do the factorization as given below

p(x)= x² + x - 6

Split x as 3x - 2x     [ ∵ 3 × - 2 = -6 ]

⇒ x² +3x - 2x - 6

⇒ x (x+3) -2(x+3)

⇒ (x+3)(x-2)

The factors of given p(x) are (x+3)(x-2)

Therefore, the value of the other factor is (x+3)
