Given : One of the zeros of quadratic polynomial (k−1)x

2

+kx+1 is −3

To find : Value of k

Solution : As −3 is one of the zeros of quadratic polynomial (k−1)x

2

+kx+1

⇒ When we substitute −3 in the polynomial , we get 0

⟹(k−1)(−3)

2

+k(−3)+1=0

⟹9k−9−3k+1=0

⟹6k−8=0

or k=

CORRECT QUESTION :-

If one of the zero of the quadratic polynomial p(x)=x² + px + 1 is -3 then the value of p is ?

GIVEN:-

A polynomial p(x)

The zero of the polynomial

TO FIND:-

THE value of p

EXPLANATION:-

If -3 is the zero of the given polynomial then by remainder theorem p(-3)=0

p(x)=x² + px + 1

p(-3)=(-3)² + p(-3) + 1

p(-3)=9+(-3p)+1

p(-3)=9-3p+1

p(-3)=10-3p

Since p(-3)=0

0=10-3p

3p=10
