Let p(x) =  k - 1x^2 + 1

One of the zeroes is -3

p(-3) =  k - 1*(-3)^2 + 1

p(-3) = k - 9 + 1

p(-3) = k - 8

k - 8 = 0

k = 8

Hope it helps :)

nitakizhakkedath: you forgot to multiply (k)with 3²
Equestriadash: Its k - 1* (-3)^2. Not k*(-3)^2
nitakizhakkedath: yes as you only performed -1*3²instead of doing the whole multiplication
Equestriadash: Huh?
nitakizhakkedath: I mean that in the first step you only multiplied 3² and -1 instead of multiplying 3² with whole of (k-1)

(k-1)x²+1
=(k-1)3²+1
=9k-9+1
=9k-8
=k=8/9
